In 1978 Bird Island was decreed a Reserved Area of Shelter for migrtory birds and wild fauna. Come swim and snorkel with the sea lions at Bird Island! Snorkeling gear is provided, or for the more adventurous , the Bird Island tour boat carries an inflatable kayak to bring you close to the sea lion pack! Del Mar Charters operates a twin-engine 30 foot open bow boat, on a daily basis for tours to Bird Island, weather permitting. Some 27 miles out from the shores of Rocky Point, the tour boat will bring you to Bird Island in about 40 minutes, usually accompanied by many dolphins anxious to swim alongside you as you head out to see the sea lions. At Bird Island, Del Mar Charter's Capitan Oscar provides a running commentary on the Island and it's wildlife (all shared while the sea lions frolic nearby), while also serving you complimentary soda, water, beer and margaritas, also includes a burrito for lunch. The Bird Island tour boat charter departs from Rocky Point to Bird Island at 9am, carrying 10 to 12 guests at any given time. and returns back to Rocky Point between 2 to 3pm.
